GhIS/CASLE/FIG JOINT CONFERENCE IN ACCRA - 2010

The Governing Council wishes to inform you that Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) in conjunction with the Commonwealth Association of Surveyors and Land Economy (CASLE) and Federation of International Surveyors (FIG - Commission8) will hold a joint conference in Accra from 22nd - 28th February 2010. On the part of the GhIS, this conference will constitute the 5th Surveyors Week and the 41st AGM of the Institution.

The Conference will be held under the theme "The Surveyor: Partner In National Development" at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, Accra. Below is the Conference venue unless otherwise stated.

a)   Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 - Media Interaction 
       Surveyors from the Institution will carry out public education at selected Media Houses.

b)   Saturday 20th February 2010 - Sponsored Walk
       This will start from the Accra Mall to Aviation Social Centre from 5:30a.m to 9:00a.m. The Regional 
       Branches are also planning for similar activity.

c)   Monday 22nd February 2010 - Press Conference
      Launching of the conference by the President of GhIS at International Press Centre, Ridge, Accra

d)   Tuesday 23rd February 2010 - Charity Donation
       Departure from Survey and Mapping Division of the Lands Commission at 12:00noon

e)   Wednesday 24th 2010 - Formal Opening of Conference
       -   Opening Ceremony and thereafter presentation of papers to be held simultaneously at three (3) 
            Sessions.

       -   Ghanaian Evening - Cocktail Reception at Cocount Groove Regency Hotel, Ridge at 6.00p.m.

f)   Thursday February 25th - Continuation of Conference
      -   Continuation of paper presentations

      -   Graduation Ceremony - New Members will be formally admitted into the Institution at 4.00p.m.

      -   Awards for students, deserving founding members and other Categories

g)   Friday 26th February 2010 - Presidential Lecture & 41st  AGM 
       -   Presidential Lecture by President, GhIS

       -   41st AGM including election of Governing Council Members

       -   Opening Forum

       -   Islamic Thanksgiving Services at Burma Camp Mosque

       -   Accra City Tour

h)   Saturday February 27th - Dinner and Awards Night
       Presidential Ball (Induction of New Governing Council Members, Elevation of Fellows, Induction of
       New President etc at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra at 7.00p.m.

i)    Sunday February 28th - Church Service
       Thanksgiving Services at Accra Ridge Church at 7.30a.m.

As you are no doubt aware, the GhIS Constitution makes it mandatory for each member to participate in all activties of the Institution because of the benefits especially in the area of professional competence enhancement among others. The programme are thus designed to have the desired impacts for career development.

The President on behalf of the Governing Council hereby invites all members to participate fully in all the scheduled activities. The participation fee is as follws:

For participants who intended to be in residence, Hotel Accommodations have been secured at $125 and $135 (Cocount Groove Regency, Highgate Hotels respectively) and $150 (Alisa Hotel).

It is our hope that you will fully participate in this conference which will among others facilitate sharing of experiences, learning about best practices and establishing professional linkages internationally.
